5 Ways to Help Prevent COVID-19 in Your Home
- Clean Equipment & Services – Everyday touched items can become a breeding ground for COVID-19 bacteria. Be sure to wipe down highly touched surfaces daily with an alcohol based disinfectant.
- Wipe Items Brought into Your Home – Did you know that the Coronavirus can actively last upto 72 hours on most surfaces. Everyday items such as groceries, deliveries, shoes, jackets, gloves, etc. should be thoroughly disinfected. It is also recommended they’re not placed on surfaces where you will be eating or touching.
- Clean Air – The Sydney ABC recommends ‘flushing’ clean air though your home. While there is no evidence to suggest clean air kills COVID-19, providing your home with fresh air and, if possible, a cross breeze, will help liven up your home and your mood.
- Wash Clothing – Harvard Health suggests when returning home, change from ‘outside’ clothes to ‘indoor’ clothes. In order to keep the COVID-19 at bay and kill the virus, all clothing and manchester should be washed in hot soapy water and left to dry completely. Line hampers in a disposable bag liner and disinfect after each use.
- Wash Hands – The tried and true. I’m sure you’ve heard this suggestion daily over the past month. The main way to prevent catching the Coronavirus is to constantly wash your hands with warm soapy water for at least 20 seconds and avoid touching your face.
Fact – The CDC states, in order to inactivate the virus within one minute we need to use disinfectants with 62-71% ethanol, 0.5% hydrogen peroxide or 0.1% sodium hypochlorite (bleach).
