8 Easy Ways to Make Your Apartment Feel Bigger

Let’s face it, while we love our cosy NYC apartments, we all dream of a larger, more open space.

Here are 8 easy ways to make your apartment instantly feel bigger!! Thank us later!

  1. Paint

Painting your floors and walls in a light color such as white is a great way to really open up a space. Darker colors close off a room and make it feel smaller. See our tips on white paint to use!

  1. Artwork

Having some form of art / detail on the ceiling draws the eye upwards creating the illusion of height. We like Vintage Travel Posters at the moment – have some fun with this!

  1. Mirrors

Mirrors are a great way to double the space. Hang a large mirror above a dresser or if you have the room a floor length, it’ll make your area appear twice the size.

  1. Window Treatments

Windows provide a great deal of depth, opt for shades or blinds instead of curtains. They take up less room and still provide privacy.

  1. Glass / Lucite Furniture

Not only are they fairly on-trend but glass and lucite furniture dont take up visual space either.

  1. Rugs

In addition to providing warmth and comfort, you can use rugs to section off certain areas, making it feel like it’s own room. It’s a great tip for those in a studio!

  1. Buy furniture with exposed legs

Beds and sofas that run straight to the floor close off a space. The more exposure the better!

  1. Think bigger!

A rule of thumb is not to decorate with anything smaller than a cantaloupe. Small items create a sense of clutter.
