Do plants really bring about positive effects towards not only your work but also personal life?
Well, results are in and studies reveal what we have likely long suspected – the extra greenery in your home is a GOOD thing! The more plants, the better! (just don’t forget they need water and sunlight).
Here are five reasons why having plants in your home, building or office is to the benefit of all those who pass through:
They help in reducing sickness
-
- Studies have shown that those who incorporate plants in their home or office will see their well-being increase by close to 20% than those who don’t. The mere presence of plants can have a major psychological impact on people and their assessment on their state of health.
They’ll make you more productive & creative!!
-
- In a 2014 research study by the University of Exeter, it showed that people’s productivity and creativity levels increased by 15% with a handful of houseplants and their memory retention increased when one plant per square meter was added. Talk about some serious benefits!
Plants help to reduce stress
-
- Studies by the University of Technology, Sydney have shown that when plants are introduced to a room or common area, individuals’ stress levels reduce with notable benefits including sharp falls in tension, anxiety, depression, anger, hostility and fatigue. While the study’s sample size was small, the researchers concluded: “This study shows that just one plant per workspace can provide a very large lift to staff spirits, and so promote wellbeing and performance.”
They keep the air clean and fresh!
-
-
- As humans, we need oxygen to survive whereas plants are able to absorb gasses we don’t need – such as carbon dioxide – and combine it with water and light to produce energy. Scientists at NASA discovered that plants were adept at removing chemicals such as benzene, formaldehyde and trichloroethylene from the air, making it easier for us to breath! In fact, it’s also been shown that plants can reduce airborne bacteria by 50% to 60% and remove up to 87% of air toxins in 24 hours.

Too Noisy? Get some plants…
-
-
- Plants are great at absorbing sounds and can help distracting the effects of background office chatter.
