Our cell phone is arguably the most readily used and sought after personal device that we own. Without it, we can feel both lost and detached from the world. It’s something that we take with ourselves wherever we go and with that, begs the question – why don’t we disinfect / clean our phone as much as we do with our hands?? Our phone is like our third hand we never wash!!
We are all told to wash our hands for at least 20 seconds on a regular occasions throughout the day, but a strong case could be mounted to state that we don’t apply the same hygienic measures for our phones. Try and refrain from using your phone in the bathroom! Or in a high traffic area (i.e. the subway).
75% of Americans are on their phone while using facilities. No matter how well you wash your hands, germs are still going to find the surface area. So, keep that phone away – the less exposure the better!
Disinfect using microfiber!!
If you aren’t looking to invest in UV light (If you don’t want to invest in a UV light, your phone likely came with a microfiber cloth. If not, you can use the one that came with your glasses or order a pack online. The cloth will remove fingerprints, oils and any other smudges from your screen without scratching the delicate surface like a paper towel. Wipe your phone down vigorously until the screen is clear of any residue.
Use Alcohol and Water
The microfiber cloth will make your phone shiny and new, however won’t kill the bacteria. Just be careful with the amount of liquid that you use. Apple and other manufacturers have a clear warning against using any kind of cleaner that is not a microfiber cloth. An alternative to alcohol and water to be to purchase wipes that will disinfect your phone
